TENNESSEE JAZZ AND BLUES'
SOCIETY NEWS Review
October 2000

Did'ja know Moe Denham is back in Tennessee? Yes, he is back with
us after spending the last few years in Arizona. When he got back
into town, he was packing his new CD, recorded in Phoenix and produced
by legendary organist Joey DeFrancesco.
Moe Denham speaks volumes through his music and treatment of songs
that swing. His vocals are always tasty. Check out the second cut,
"Honeysuckle Rose." The title tune, Little Blue Volkswagon,
is a Les McCann original that is also a Denham vocal gem. Producer
Joey DeFrancesco is the organist. He shines on this cut. Moe does
a super job on the Brook Benton evergreen, "Lovers Question."
Recalling the song from the R&B and Pop charts, Moe does it
proud. "Bugs Boogie" is a Moe Denham original that really
cooks. You'll love "Willow Weep for Me," "Over the
Rainbow" and Tony Joe White's "Rich Woman Blues."
As for this reviewer, I love the wonderful "Who She Do,"
a Joe Williams' song that Joe recorded a few times. This song is
a classic that you should hear more often. Get Moe's album and put
your ear to it.
Go hear Moe Denham the first chance you get. We're sure he'll have
this album for you to include in your collection. You'll be happy
to hear a solid piano player on the album, as well. Moe is that
piano player. Invite your friends to your house and have them hear
Little Blue Volkswagon! This would make a great Christmas
stocking-stuffer. Get it soon. You won't be sorry.
